Police have charged two Chinese nationals who they say were producing fake driver’s licences.

Officers stopped the men, aged 19 and 20, in the city’s east at Maroubra early yesterday afternoon after reports the pair were going through mailboxes.

The pair were searched, with police allegedly finding a fake New South Wales driver’s licence and photocopies of another 25 fake licences.

Two mobile phones were also seized that had allegedly been purchased using the bogus licences.

Police later raided a home in the inner city at Chippendale, where they took computers and passports for examination.

The men were charged with 25 counts of possessing false documents to obtain property and two counts of dishonestly obtaining property by deception.

They are being held in custody to face court today.
